Biography

John was born in Norwich, England. He started his career in local theatre productions. His child roles included, the Artful Dodger in Oliver, Tony in West Side Story, Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy Keeler in Annie get your gun, Strephon in Iolanthe, Marco in the Gondoliers and Frederick in the Pirates of Penzance, culminating with a Royal Command Performance at the Mermaid Theatre in London for Prince Edward.

Moving to London he trained at the London Studio Centre on a three year musical theatre/dance performance course during which time he acted in a double bill by Robert Bolt, One Thing More and A Man for all Seasons with Hugh Manning and Constance Cummings. Following the drama, came a lighter role, Nicholas Fanclub in Rock Hard at the Leicester Haymarket directed by Paul Kerrison. Before John had even graduated he sang on his first cruise around the Mediterranean on a six month tour.

Upon graduation from the London Studio Centre John made his West End debut in the Barry Manilow musical Copacabana where he understudied the lead role of Tony and at age 21 performed it over 60 times!!

From London John moved to Germany, once again to understudy a lead role, this time Joe Gillis in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard directed by Trevor Nunn, at the Rhein-Main Theatre where he stayed for fourteen months.

With a love for travel John moved to Portugal where he was resident vocalist for the country’s premier casino chain Solverde. During the next four years he performed in shows titled:- Jazz, Blues and Rock n’roll,  Rock at the Opera, Sax, chips and Rock n’roll and Around the world to name but a few. All produced by Belinda King Presents.

Coming home from Portugal John performed with Michael Ball at his summer festivals.

The travel bug was still strong, so John returned to cruising, this time with the prestigious P&O Cruise Lines on board Oriana, Oceana and Victoria for her farewell season. Under the direction of Jerry Robinson’s Stadium Theatre Company many shows were presented including:- What a Feelin’, Musicalenium, Hooray for Hollywood, Night on the Town, Up with the Curtain, Seven, Cotton Eye Joe, Mean Fiddler, Viva Victoria, Rock under the Stars, Queen by Appointment, Totally Tropical and many more. Such a diverse range of material has enabled John to become an extremely versatile performer.

Christmas time brings pantomime and John has worked with some comedy greats. Ronnie Corbett in Cinderella and Jim Davidson in Dick Whittington and for the last two years John has returned home to Norfolk for the Thursford Christmas Spectacular .

2009 - John performed in HMS Pinafore with the Carl Rosa Opera Company touring around the UK. In October he sang with Ruthie Henshall at the Inspiration Awards for Women - Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity event Hosted at Cadogan Hall in London. Once again the run up to christmas was spent at the Thursford Christmas Spectacular .

2010 - John was part of the ITV choir supporting acts on the TV series Popstar to Operastar. He has also written 2 cabaret shows for his return to cruising.
